My preference is that ships inside a POS forcefield should be able to shoot enemies outside the field, and should not be targettable by attackers (Admittedly, I don't know if this is the status quo currently).
This would make it a possibility to take down Dreads assuming the defenders could make it to the POS (often impossible currently when the system is locked down).
The ability to mobilize a fleet in the sieged system I believe is KEY - therefore I'd like to see a medical facility POS structure that can contain upto 5 jump clones. This would make it viable for corps and alliances to leave a group of setup ships at the POS ready to defend it if attacked.
For the smaller corp (such as mine) it is an incentive to setup in 0.0. At least even with our maximum of 10 people online I'd feel like we'd have a (slim?) chance to repulse a small enemy fleet. It'd also help large alliances mobilize to defend their key systems since with lots of POS you could easily and quickly mobilize a fleet in a Sovreign system.
Jumpclones at a POS would also get more people into 0.0, since gatecamps etc could be bypassed allowing more people into 0.0 more easily. This doen't mean less traffic for gatecampers because those additional people would build up more loot and need to get their loot back OUT of 0.0 to empire to sell - Corps like mine without a carrier to jump stuff out would see a 0.0 POS as a real possibility - rather than thinking we must be in a large alliance (or pay our dues to one) to risk it.
People would leave more valuable ships, loot and other assetts (possible to lose jumpclones for example) in 0.0 at their POSes in order to defend their POS's. The build up in loot would likely mean richer picking for attackers. Large alliances could have homes in the north, south, east and west - 0.0 would be more dynamic and BoB could conquer even larger territories! Or could they? hehe!
Something I'd also like to see is POS drone/fighterbays, Vampires/Neutralizers, target painters and weapon upgrades - More configurable settings for defenses like weapon cycle time, possibilities for weapons to ignore certain ship classes should be enough. I'm not in favour of more skillsets to learn, or manual control of weapons - manual focus fire already underpowers a lot of ships (logistics, command ships called primary for example?).
Disregard all I have to say if you wish since I've got very little experience fighting POS battles. I have never attacked a POS and only really helped in defense of a POS/Station 'the bottleshp' when MC attacked IAC - when I was with a fleet of those noble CVA folk. It was very enjoyable (when I wasn't being booted by lag), but taught me a lesson that in 0.0 POS wars - a small corp has no chance.
Maybe jumpclones at a POS wouldn't give us small corps much more of a chance, but at least we'd have a fighting chance. And with a fighting chance I'd be prepared to risk a tower - which for us is a considerable sum of ISK.
Cheers, Vyk.
